The Desoto Arts Center has initiated a public service project, "ART ON OAK" to help beautify Arcadia's Downtown by posting photography and artwork, created by our members, on vacant store windows. ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
JEAN EVOY
My husband and I bought property in the Peace River Basin in the 1970s to give our kids a place to explore nature. We canoed, hiked and camped out for 20 years before building the house that would eventually become our retirement home. I studied the changes in plant communities, but took few pictures. When we retired in 2003, I began to take pictures, especially of plant insect interactions.
I have a special affinity for polllinators and predators. Ounce for ounce, dragonlies are among the most successful predators in the world. They can hover and fly backwards. They may remain absolutely still for long periods of time, then burst forth with an astounding speed to overtake their prey. I am often awed and always glad that they are much smaller than I am.
